The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has an estimated TB incidence of 513 cases per 100,000. Drug resistance is increasingly recognized as a serious problem.

The Eugene Bell Foundation (EBF), an NGO based in the US and South Korea, has a long history of supporting the North Korean TB control program. In 2007, EBF began providing second-line TB drugs, equipment and consumables necessary to treat MDR-TB patients. MDR-TB treatment sites are currently located in North Pyongan, South Pyongan, Pyongyang, Nampo, North Hwanghae, and South Hwanghae provinces. Over 3,000 patients have been diagnosed and treated to date.
